Dark grey skies this morning as we pack to move a little farther down the road. I think today will be my last day of traveling in the proximity of the ocean as I am turning westward through Texas. Today however I will see lots of water and cross it and drive along side it.
Galveston is a lovely area and I look forward to returning some day. Maybe during my next circuit of the country I will be more interested in getting to know the cities and culture of each area, but this time it is the beauty of nature that calls to me. Make no mistake, when I start up my RV and pull out onto the road again, my heart sings! What a life!

We came to a toll bridge when we finally got to the edge of Galveston Island. Isn't it interesting that the Texas Department of Transportation provides free ferry service onto the island and a toll bridge off? Or, if you were travelling from south to north, it would be a toll bridge on and a free ferry off.
We stopped for lunch today at Surfside, Texas. Surfside on a very narrow spit of land with a bay on one side and the Gulf on the other. The entire town is about four blocks from one side to the other, although it is much longer than that.

As you can see, they expect flooding here.

Here are the picnic tables in the little city park. It was cold, windy and rainy, so we lunch was in the RV, but they are too cute.

As we came inland we saw many oil refineries. And filling up with gas, I found it to be 20 cents per gallon less than my last fill up. I guess it doesn't cost as much to deliver it just across the road.
It rained hard all day so I was very glad to arrive at Texana Lake State Park. I was informed that I would be sharing the park with every kind of poisonous snake found in the United States. Yikes!

That gave me the shivers but fortunately the park is very peaceful and I can see the lake from my campsite. I will watch where I step though.

And tomorrow is a new day.

Verla,
I love that you are along side the water. Tranquility follows water. Did you feel as though you had a salt scrub, after the sea wind had blown all over your RV?
Snakes! Not a fan. Was Chorro watching out for them for you as well?
Can't wait until your next adventure. Thanks for taking us along with you.
From the deepfreezes of MN
(above zero temps without the wind chill... here's to wishing we were travelin' with you!)
We stayed there two nights once...
Spike chased an armadillo into a
culvert, plus we saw lots of 'gators, but no snakes.
Too bad it is cold, but it's cold
everywhere. The Rio Grande Valley
and FL. seem to be the only warm
spots in the U.S. right now, and
then there is the rain.....but,
rain doesn't need to be shoveled.
