Red Skies in the Morning

Wow! An incredible sunrise is a great way to start the day. It is impossible to stand on the beach with this gorgeous red sunrise without having a sense of the wonderfulness of life and optimism about the day.

You can see that I wasn't the only one on the beach enjoying the sunrise. I was surprised to see that there were actually many folks up and about. It's a chilly morning but I think it will be a beautiful day.

Rumor has it that there IS a Starbucks in Galveston and I intend to find out if it is true. So we temporarily packed up from our campground to make the trip to town. My GPS says Starbucks is 11 miles away.

One of the first things I noticed as I neared downtown was that the streets have street car rails in them. Before long I spotted a little red Victorian streetcar, but wasn't able to get a photo of it. The main street toward town took me past this statue, I think centrally located on the major cross streets downtown. These streets are particularly wide with a tree line boulevard in the middle that reminds me of Victoria Street in Regina, Canada.

The street ended right at the cruise ship pier and there were two cruise ships docked. The front one is from the Carnival Cruise Line. I could not see about the second one. They are huge.

Right around the corner I found what I was looking for!

Here are a couple of inside snaps for my Mississippi friend who likes to know about 'other' Starbucks.

And yes, I ordered a tall decaf latte'. :-)

Here's a bit of what the historic area of downtown Galveston looks like
There are many tour buses downtown, this Sunday morning. Most of them are huge, but this one was not only small but also unique. Gus the Party Bus.

I found my way back to the statue. The building behind is the Gates Convention Center.

My RV is parked in front of the Chamber of Commerce building right behind. Aren't these trees something?
Here in the historic part of the city, the downtown area is fairly small and there are many tree lined residential streets with Victorian houses between downtown and the Gulf.

Here's the view of the ocean I had while filling up with gas.

Before we went back to the campground, we took a walk along the highway, it's called the San Louis Pass Highway. Today, the water has meringue frosting.

That's a bait and snack shop out on the water that you can walk out to if you're brave enough.
There were a few surfers out today. I tried to get a picture of this one riding the waves but he didn't stay upright long enough for me to snap.

We took the doggy route past the painted seawall. There were lots of walkers, joggers, and bicyclists along this route today.

I tired out before Chorro and since I am still the driver, we went back to our campground for one more night.

Tomorrow is a new day.

I'm a day late posting my comments, but wanted you to know that I was impressed with how pretty (and clean) Galveston is. I truly loved the sunrise pictures, don't think I've ever watched a sunrise on a beach, so thanks for yet another new experience.

I couldn't figure out what the blocky things were admidst the ocean meringue....

Glad you found a starbucks!!
