City of Rocks State Park

This morning was a time of indecision -- to stay another day where we were or to go out exploring. Chorro always votes to go out exploring, and sometimes he pleads his case quite insistently. I usually give in.
There are several more state parks in this area that we have not seen and we wanted to check out at least one more, but which one?

Heading north to Silver City from Deming is the City of Rocks State Park.

It doesn't look very impressive as you see it from a distance, just some rocks scattered across an open field. Coming closer though shows the rocks have been eroded by sand over time into interesting shapes.
Camping spots are almost hidden throughout the rock formations.
The road goes all the way around and at every turn is another enticing little nook in the rocks set up for camping.
Most of the campsites are undeveloped, having only a picnic table.
Trails meandered through the rocks-- what a great place to play hide and seek.
There were some sites with electricity and water, but they were in a row on a flat area to the right of the park's entrance and didn't take advantage of the rock formations and were not at all appealing. Chorro really wanted to stay, but I was afraid that, at about 5500 feet, it might freeze hard enough to be a problem for our RV. On really cold nights, we need to plug in to shore power to run our little electric heater. So we drove on to Silver City for the night at an RV park. We will come back here some day and camp. Right at the exit to the park is this very graphic suggestion of the only way to go!
Since we didn't leave Deming until early afternoon, it was later in the day when we arrived in Silver City, so I will show you Silver City tomorrow.
Tomorrow is a new day.
