Texas in the Rear View Mirror
Clear blue skies this morning, here's the morning view of the Van Horn mountains as we are leaving for the day.
We'll drive through El Paso, Texas, today, and we see mountain all along the way. The altitude through here is about 4000-4500 feet, so we have really been climbing the last couple of days. My memory of driving through El Paso last year was that it was incredibly busy and traffic was stressful, but today I think we are much earlier in the day and the traffic is light enough that I can snap a couple of shots on the east edge of the city.
And before we know it we are in New Mexico, Land of Enchantment.
Southern New Mexico is one of my favorite places and today we will stop in Las Cruces very briefly to have a lunch break.
Oops, that wasn't a lunch place was it? We saw a gas station on the corner where gas was advertised at $1.29 a gallon. There were long lines, and the station across the street posted $1.79 a gallon. I decided it was worth unhitching my car to make the RV maneuverable enough to get through the lines. With a little patience, I got my RV tank filled for about $32! I feel like I should stay here and drive around a lot so I can do it again :-)After we are through Las Cruces, there is very little traffic on I-10 aside from the big trucks and a few RV's. And alongside the interstate, more mountains. Like sunshine, mountains make me smile.
Chorro is navigating as best he can, but he isn't sure we'll ever get there today, a long driving day.
Our destination tonight is Deming, New Mexico, at another Escapees Park.
I got a little caught up in the game room doing a jigsaw puzzle and almost missed the sunset! Well, as you can see, I did miss it, but I caught the lovely light after the sun went down.
Today was a good day.

Glad you found a Starbucks, after a long, dry thirsty trek across miles and miles of endless countryside!
