Destination Quartzsite Arizona

We drove through Quartzsite last year, stayed over night, had some RV repairs done, but our timing was "off". Quartzsite has a huge influx of RVers who come for the sunshine, the big gem show, and the unending flea markets, about the last two weeks of January. With the drop in gasoline prices, I thought that Chorro and I could point our little RV nose westward and go and see what all the fuss was about this year.

We left our snug little behind-the-truck-stop spot this morning and began the last leg toward our destination. Chorro and I travel in a very modest little RV with a very modest little "toad" trailing along behind.

There are many other styles of RV's of course, and what comes to mind for many people, especially if they don't like RV's, are the huge forty foot long diesel extravaganzas. But there are other kinds. We are one, here's another.

This RV is a 4-wheel drive with a winch in the front. Hmm, I wonder where it COULDN'T go? That list is probably the short list. It's hooked up to water, sewer, and electricity, so I assume it has all the amenities. And it has a motorcycle rack on the back with it's own little fold down ramp.

As we drove our last hundred miles to Quartzsite, we had the Eagle Springs mountains to the south and the Big Horn mountains to the north.

Here's an outer edge of Quartzsite. We'll visit the town and take pictures for you to see tomorrow.

We are camping with a group of friends about five miles out of town. As the sun sinks, the New Water mountains to the northeast are lit.

Sunset is behind the Trigo mountains to the southwest, so we only see the soft after-sunset sky.

Dusk closes around the desert.

Today was a good day.

The desert shadows have always been intriguing to me, and dusk is really a magical time of the day, don't you think? I woke up to a brilliant yellow orange and purple sky..what are your sunrises like on the desert? In one of the scenery photos, just before you got into Quartzsite, it looked like the rocks were arranged into a word--or is that just my imagination?
