Back "Home" in Quartzsite, Arizona

Why Quartzsite again, you ask? For one thing, my four-legged friend really likes it here in the desert. Okay, so do I. He has room to roam without being on a leash and he has a new favorite past-time -- chasing lizards. As far as I know he hasn't caught one (I hope).

We have camped in three different spots, each another direction from town. This would be my favorite. We see green from our doorstep and mountains beyond.

We even have a big tree right near us that shades a tired terrier when he has given up lizard chasing.

From our campsite we hike the "washes," the dry stream beds with gravel bottoms. Our only full day of rain in the two months we have been in this area didn't cause any sudden filling of the washes and that has been a disappointment.

They look like roads running through the trees, don't they? As you would expect, there are few trees in the desert except near these washes.

The dead ones make interesting subjects.

Once in a while when he is feeling particularly handsome, Chorro will agree to be my subject too and pose for the camera. What a prince!

The desert is very quiet. The sun is brilliant and not yet hot, although it soon will be.

The mountains around us change with the changing light of the day.

Clouds are rare, but when there are some, wow!

And always there are the sunsets. Living most of my life surrounded by mountains, I haven't watched many sunsets. Maybe that's why I never tire of them now. Sometimes the sky in the east is colorful with the reflection of the sunset too, in more subdued tones.

And one evening when the moon was full, I turned from the sunset and saw the moonrise.

Here are the sunsets from a couple of different evenings.

Every day that ends with a sunset like that is a good day!

I was delighted to read/view your Quartzite entry. Yes indeed Chorro looks so handsome (did someone give him a trim recently?) and like he's having a great time in the desert.
I could look at pictures of flowers and sunsets all day, you can never have too many of those!
